Coronavirus COVID-19 Update – A glimmer of hope!
What a year this has turned out to be! If you’d asked us in January what we had planned for this year we’d reel off in an excited patter the list of new trips and destinations we were planning on going to during 2020.
Just as some of our Squadra La Fuga members were embarking on the first event of the year at the Granfondo Casablanca UCI World Series the Coronavirus situation was starting to take hold in Europe. Everyone imagined it may just be limited to Asia, but as Italy and the Bergamo province – which we once called home – was struck down with devastating effect it was obvious that Europe was heading for some major changes.
Within the space of a week, our 2020 calendar was decimated and being based in Girona, Spain we found ourselves tightly controlled in one of the strictest lockdowns in Europe. Many of our guides and office staff were not able to ride or even venture outside for many weeks. The dip in form has been quite a shock.
As lockdown eased it looked like there would be a glimmer of hope that September and October trips may be back on. Unfortunately, it was not to be with first Spain, then Belgium, then France being added to countries needing 14 days self-isolation when on return to the UK.
With so much change it is obvious that our riders are nervous about booking tours, both for 2020 and for 2021. It is with this in mind that we’ve changed our terms and conditions for as long as the COVID-19 situation continues.
Pre-COVID booking terms
Our standard terms and conditions mean that bookings are confirmed with around a 30% deposit. Full balance payments are due 90 days before departure.
If you needed to cancel your tour then there was a sliding scale of the refund you would receive depending on how close to departure you cancelled the tour.
COVID booking terms
Deposits remain the same 30% of trip cost. Should you need to cancel the tour for COVID related reasons, such as quarantine restrictions been applied or other restrictions on entry/exit into a country or lockdown situations within the country you are visiting, we will refund you the balance payment.
Your deposit payment will remain on the account and will be available for you to use on a future tour when restrictions ease.

With these updated terms and conditions, we have found that it gives our riders confidence that they can book a tour for 2021 with confidence that they will not be out of pocket should they have to cancel their La Fuga tour.
