Overview
UCI Gran Fondo World Championships 2022 - Trento
Trento, city of the Council, history, art and culture
Trento, a settled jewel in the heart of the Alps, a city rich in art and history, with Tridentum, the underground Roman town, the Buonconsiglio Castle, the wide Cathedral square surrounded by the frescoed palaces, the modern museum of sciences MuSe.
City between tradition and innovation, an unending succession of one historical and architectural wonder after the other, accompanied by a rich variety of initiatives and arts and cultural events drawing tourists from all over Europe to Trento all year round.
From the charm of the winter atmosphere, with the magic of the most renowned Christmas Market, to the Springtime activities with many gastronomic events featuring products known throughout the world, to the Trento Filmfestival, the oldest international film festival in the Alps and to the Festival dell’Economia (Economics Festival) a highly esteemed formula of public meetings and occasions for confrontation and reflection, conducted by national and international economics experts. A fundamental step and reference point for everyone interested in learning more about the most authentic gastronomic and handicraft treasures of the Trentino territory is Palazzo Roccabruna, headquarters of the “Casa dei prodotti Trentini” (House of Trentino products).
And then there are the historical reenactments during the Feste Vigiliane, as well as the Medieval archery competition called Palio delle Contrade. There are also museums for all tastes, urban trekking itineraries in the most fascinating places, 15 excursions to discover Trento and its surroundings with routes and tips for different skill levels, and the Trento naturalistic circuit with over 400 km of cycling routes connecting it to Lake Garda and the Dolomites and 50 km of paths in the surrounding woods.
Trento is also the cradle for people with challenging dreams: the city will be proud to welcome back in August the young “black and blue” players of FC Inter, who will be training there, as well as the new generation of the Bayern Munich football club. The city and the territory will also host training camps and sojourns for national sports teams joining the pilot programme Giovani talenti… dal Trentino ai Giochi Olimpici del 2020! (Young talents… from Trentino to the Olympic Games 2020), dedicated to Italian youth sports.
Monte Bondone, a terrace over the Dolomites
A popular travel destination located in the heart of Valle dell’Adige, a few kilometres away from the city of Trento, Monte Bondone is a fantastic natural terrace from which you can admire an incredible full-circle panorama ranging from the Dolomiti di Brenta to the Adamello peaks. This mountain is the symbol of Trentino, offering everything a nature and sports lover could desire during the summer season, surrounded by the spectacle of the Dolomites peaks and dominated by the peace and silence of the forests.
Monte Bondone, quite well-known by ski lovers for its large variety of ski runs for winter downhill and cross-country skiing as well as snowshoe excursions also host a nature reserve for the protection of the flora covering the Tre Cime (Three Peaks), a special area for sequence excursions from Cornetto to Dos d’Abramo and to Cima Verde. In the Viote area, there is an Alpine Botanical Garden, cared for by the Tridentine Natural Science Museum, where various kinds of spontaneous plants and herbs are grown, such as the medicinal herbs that are used for the hay baths at the Terme di Garniga spa. For people who love being active in contact with nature the territory offers several cycling routes along Valle dell’Adige, Valle dei Laghi and Via Claudia Augusta; for mountain bike fans there is a route going from Monte Bondone down to Valle dei Laghi and to Lake Garda along the Mountain & Garda Bike circuit.
