Ronde van Vlaanderen or Tour of Flanders is one of the monuments of the professional cycling calendar. This unique event combines a tough route punctuated by the legendary Flanderian bergs, a passionate and knowledgeable audience, and some typically wild early-season weather to produce a spectacle that is unmistakably Belgian.

The sportive takes place the day preceding the professional race. Three route choices allow the masochistic to take on the full race distance of 242km, or the pragmatist, the choice of the 179km, 144km, or 80km routes. Tour of Flanders is one of Belgian biggest sporting events, so book with La Fuga to guarantee your entry.

We will be based in the city of Ghent for the weekend, allowing us easy access to the start of the professional race and start and finish locations of the sportive on the preceding day. Despite being one of Belgium's oldest cities, Ghent remains small enough to feel cosy but big enough to be vibrant. Ghent is a city full of 15th-century architectural monuments. Medieval buildings are everywhere, and these old buildings contribute to Ghent's fairy tale cityscape, especially along the channel and in the squares.

    Overview

Tour of Flanders - We Ride Flanders 2025

Giving cycling enthusiasts a chance to taste the flavour of ‘de Ronde’, the Tour of Flanders sportive takes place the day preceding the professional race. Four route choices allow the masochistic to take on the full race distance of 240km, or the pragmatist, the choice of the 179km, 144km, or 80km routes circular routes starting and ending in Oudenaarde.

We will be based in the city of Ghent for the weekend, allowing us easy access to the start of the professional race in Antwerp, the famous bergs at the business end of the race and start and finish locations of the sportive on a preceding day. Despite being one of Belgium’s oldest cities, Ghent remains small enough to feel cosy but big enough to be vibrant. Ghent is a city full of 15th-century architectural monuments. Medieval buildings are everywhere, and these old buildings contribute to Ghent’s fairy tale cityscape, especially along the channel and in the squares.

    Overview the region and challenges

The Tour of Flanders is one of the monuments of the professional cycling calendar. A unique event, it combines a tough route punctuated by the legendary Flanders bergs, a passionate and knowledgeable audience and some typically wild early-season weather to produce a spectacle that is unmistakably Belgian.

<-- Having made use of a number of starting points over the years, the 2025 route starts in the beautiful city of Antwerp, Belgium’s second-largest city after Brussels. Heavily bombed in WWII, the city has a mixture of modern and medieval architecture that contributes towards its vibrant atmosphere. -->
Having made use of a number of starting points over the years, and now settled on an alternating starting location between Antwerp and Bruges alternating each year. This year is the turn of Bruges. Bruges is a beautiful city characterised by its old cobbles streets, network of canals and impressive medieval architecture, Bruges gives a warm welcome to the Tour of Flanders whenever it hosts the start.

From Bruges, the route traverses the Flandrien plain before encountering the succession of Bergs which characterise the race. First up is a larger circuit, including the iconic Muur de Geraardsbergen as well as a few other lesser-known bergs. Then, a second round of the big-name bergs including Koppenberg, Oude Kwaremont and Paterberg where the action normally kicks off before the riders have a fast run into the finish.

    Climate

Belgium has a temperate maritime climate influenced by the North Sea and Atlantic Ocean. The average temperatures you'll face in April would be between 6.3°C and 14.3°C, with exceptional possible peaks as low as -5°C and high as 25°C. Some days or part of the day it will be nice and warm and some moments it can be a bit chilly. With European weather being distinctly unpredictable it is probably best to bring a range of clothing to cater for all eventualities.

    Gearing

It’s the steep cobbles that provide the challenge. In total are fifteen cobbled climbs, sometimes more then 20%. It is recommended to push a higher gear on the cobbles in order to make lighter work of them. A compact chainset (offering gearing of 34-50) with a 32 or 34 lowest gear on the cassette is recommended. This should provide closely spaced ratios to allow you to find just the right cadence.

Our La Fuga guides will pick you up from Brussels airport or Lille Europe train station and transfer you to your hotel in Ghent. There will be time ahead of dinner to have a quick walk along with the lovely canals and grab a drink ahead of a delicious meal.

Your guide will brief you over dinner about your race day.

    Day 2 - Saturday 5 April 2025
    Sportive Day
    Distance: 80 - 240km
    Climbing: 756 - 1904 metres

Today is your chance to take on the challenge of “de Ronde” for yourself. We will make the short journey to the start in Antwerp for those taking on the 217km route and arrive with enough time to make final bike adjustments and a final coffee to settle the nerves. Another vehicle will take those attempting the 159km, 128km or 74km to Oudenaarde, also with time to make final preparations. While you are taking on the bergs of Flanders, we’ll be making preparations for your return, setting up our exclusive La Fuga area where you’ll receive a post-race beer, a comfy seat and a refreshing rub down, just like the pros.

After a well-earned shower and perhaps a brief power nap we’ll head into Gent to enjoy a great meal and exchange anecdotes over a glass or two of the local brew.

    Day 3 - Sunday 6 April 2025
Tour of Flanders Elite Race Day - Departure Day
    Distance: 30km
    Climbing: 247 metres

After having suffered over the roads of Flanders yesterday, today is your chance to see the top professional riders slug it out over the same bergs during the Tour of Flanders. We’ll do the short ride to the women’s presentation and watch the men’s peloton going thru Oudenaarde. Then we will continue our ride to the Paterberg. We’ve got the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat and watch the men tackle the super steep slopes three times and then the women’s. Once they pass for the final time, we’ll continue to watch the action on the big TV screens to see who takes the honours in this prestigious and hard-fought race.

After the race, we will run transfers back for your departure.
