The original sportive event, La Marmotte still stands astride the genre, its route carved in stone against the backdrop of Europe’s most imposing mountain climbs.
"I just wanted to say a huge thank you. La Marmotte was an unforgettable weekend for me and although I had some issues with the bike and back, I loved virtually every minute of it. I'm not really a fan of overly sycophantic praise, but I literally cannot fault the service you provided. You made the whole event memorable and more pleasant and I have already recommended you to friends who are looking to do it next year."
La Marmotte is for anybody who has ever watched the Tour de France conquer the Alps and thought: “I’d like to do that.” Over thirty years have passed since La Marmotte’s organisers settled upon the 174.4kms of road that they felt summed up the very essence of bike racing in the mountains, and few of the thousands of hopefuls that descend upon the little town of Bourg d’Oisans to try their luck each July can have ever disagreed with that judgement. If you long for jagged snow-capped mountains against a sky so blue you can feel it; if you think that your body is ready for 17,000 feet of vertical ascent; if you want to take your place amongst the greats, then La Marmotte is for you.
La Fuga puts you in the box seat for La Marmotte by ensuring you stay in Alpe d’Huez itself. Our experience and expertise has proved that staying near the finish line of this epic event will not only give you the best possible preparation for such a tough event, but will provide you all the incentive you need to conquer the most famous twenty-one hairpins in sporting history, knowing a hot shower and your own room awaits at the summit.
Alpe d’Huez apart, the long and beautiful climb of the Col du Glandon alongside the cool, blue waters of the Lac de Grand Maison is a favourite of many alpine riders. That serves as a warm-up to the day’s major obstacle, the twin ascent of the Col du Télégraphe and its big brother, the Col du Galibier, a monstrous 2642 metres above sea level. Having seen them off, the glorious windy descent of one of cycling’s most famous passes will return you to your starting point for you to begin your assault on those hairpins and create a memory that will remain with you forever.

Friday 6 July – ARRIVAL DAY
Our transfer will take you from Geneva to our base in Alpe d’Huez where your bike will be unpacked and built by our expert mechanics ready for the following day.
Saturday 7 July – Day 1
We will enjoy a gentle ride along the Oisans valley. The aim is to spin the legs and loosen things up for the challenge tomorrow. Lunch will be had at a cafe en route.
In the afternoon we will visit the race village, pick up race numbers and sample the pre-race atmosphere. The rest of the afternoon will be free to relax and make final preparations for tomorrow. Your bike will receive a final check over from our mechanic and your race number fitted.
Please remember to bring a medical certificate (feel free to use this template) OR valid racing licence and a signed ‘Je Roule Propre’ form from the event organisers. These are very important documents – without them it will not be possible to pick up your race entry!
Sunday 8 July – RACE DAY
The Big Day! Having slept in comfort and style, the hotel will serve a breakfast suitable for the day’s activities with generous helpings of pasta. We will then ride to the race start and arrive with enough time to grab a pre-race grand creme or two. Your guide will be on hand to pass on some last minute words of wisdom and escort you to the starting pen.
The La Fuga Pro Support will be en-route to stock you up with the best energy and motivation to complete the course.
After a tough (and hopefully enjoyable) race, we’ll meet you at the finish with some cold drinks and congratulations. A refreshing shower and perhaps a power nap await you back at the hotel. We will then venture into town and reward our efforts of the day with some great food and drink.
Monday 9 July – DEPARTURE DAY
A day to enjoy your last few hours in France before we transfer you back to Geneva. Your bike will be packed up ready for your flight home.
La Fuga have been running La Marmotte trips since our inception. During those years we’ve used different accommodation based around the Alpe d’Huez resort. The most luxurious and relaxing of all the accommodations are the chalets at the top of the resort. This year we’ve secured all of the chalets in the complex so that our guests can stay in premium quality and intimate accommodation whilst enjoying the same La Fuga experience that we’re known for.
All chalets are less than 7 bedrooms, all bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms for your privacy and comfort. Your meals will be catered for in house by our very own chalet host. You’ll be able to relax and enjoy the weekend when not on the bike with the excellent lounge area or out on the balcony.
