After all the rumour-mill, the route details for the Etape du Tour 2011 have been released! Two Etapes for 2011.
The first, replicating Stage 19, will be from Modane to Alpe d’Huez. The shortest Etape ever, at 109km, but should not, however, be underestimated. Climbing Col de Telegraphe, the Col de Galibier before descending the Lautaret to Bourg d’Oisans. The highlight of the route is the 21 hairpin turns of Alpe d’Huez to finish.
This first Etape will be held on Monday 11 July 2011.

The following weekend, and replicating Stage 9 of the Tour, two small towns in the Massif Central host the start and finish of the second Etape. At 208km, Issoire to Saint Flour is arguably a tougher route than Modane-Alpe d’Huez. Despite not passing across high mountains, the route traverses more, smaller climbs, though equally as tough – the Puy Mary (1589m) contains 8km at 12%.
This second Etape will be held on Sunday July 17th.
