The 2010 l'Étape du Tour route has been announced with the usual flourish at the official Tour de France presentation in Paris. Christian Prudhomme unveiled a challenging route taking riders from the start in Pau over the Col de Marie Blanque at a height of 1035m and streches of 11% in the last 4km of the 9.5km climb.

Then onto the Col du Soulor (22km with the summit at 1474m) with a challenging finish at the summit of the legendary Col du Tourmalet, climbing to a height of 2115m in its 19km. Race distance is 174km with total climbing estimated by La Fuga to be close to 4000m.

For the riders of the Tour de France this will be their second ascent of the Tourmalet in three days as the mountain features as the centrepiece in celebrations of the centenary visit of the Tour de France to the Pyréneés.
